Needed a small late-night dinner to go and Munchiez by Mei Lai Wah was the perfect spot. The pineapple pork bun was as delicious as everyone else's reviews suggest. Such a fantastic combination of flavors and textures. Full disclosure, I found myself eating every last little shard of the crispy outside that had fallen on my coffee table. However, I liked the curry fish balls just as much. I got a medium order but could see myself just getting a large order of those as a meal sometime. The iced jasmine tea was also great- very strong jasmine flavor and fragrance which I love.

It's nice to be able to get your favorite pineapple bbq buns in this area. It's definitely a different vibe from the original. Quick, efficient, effective. 4/5

At the risk of sounding like an old man sitting on a porch ranting about the "good ol' days", I used to go to Mei Lai Wah long before its current incarnation. Not so long ago (okay, maybe about a decade ago) the place looked like a place out of time complete with bar stool seating in the front at a long counter and booths with torn up leather in the back. A cat who hung out in the back helped control the mice and man, they had some of the best roast pork buns ever! Fast forward to now and the Chinatown restaurant has grown in popularity, but sacrificed the ability to sit down and eat, becoming a pure take out joint. The good news is that the food is still great and thus there is almost *always* a line going down several store fronts. Now thanks to some savvy marketing, the team behind the current version of Mei Lai Wah has opened up Munchiez in the West Village, a small extension of their shop focusing on street style snacks with select buns. They focus largely on the roast pork buns, but lack say, the Coconut "Cocktail" buns. I snagged one of their roast pork buns with the sweet topping to compare to the ones you get in Chinatown. Much to my surprise, there is quite a difference between the two. The bun to roast pork ratio is a bit different, favoring more bun. Also, there was not as much sauce inside the bun as those you get in Chinatown. Mind you, the bun was still *very* good, one of the best you can get, but I was surprised. The gent who took more order and rang me up was very nice and made some idle chit chat. Be warned, the space is *tiny* so this place is best for taking your order to go. It's great to see Mei Lai Wah stretching its proverbial legs. I hope this venture is very successful.

Cheng fan with peanut/oyster sauce and siu mai -- and the pork bun -- it's called the 7/11 combo It's called this because in select 7/11s in Hong Kong you can get this combo of snacks (though there you can also get fake sharks fin soup and garlic noodles). I grew up after violin lessons or piano lessons going to 7/11 with a few hkd getting these snacks and they have been my favorite food tk get in Hong Kong -- it's delicious and so reminiscent of my childhood -- j love that this place exists in nyc and I highly recommend trying it out!

What a great addition to macdougal street in terms of late night munchies and lots of snacks by Mei Lai Wah. Service here js great and they are open late and everything always test fresh and warm. Highly recommend the pineapple pork bun. Small location but doesn't matter, you can take your food on the go and eat this while walking around

Happy to have pineapple char siu buns a little closer than Chinatown, and open late! The buns taste the same as it's Chinatown location. The cumin beef skewers are really good, unexpectedly tender. Food comes fast. There's about two tables for sitting.

The bite of a fresh pineapple pork bun is UNBEATABLE! I wish I could relive this bite again as I'm typing this... The food is decently price and is a perfect stop to grab a small meal and eat it at Washington Park closeby! The cashier was really sweet and quick to get the food out, minimal seating but nice to eat it outside and people watch!

Munchiez is a great addition to Greenwich Village! I love the original Mei Lai Wah in Chinatown, but since it's grown in popularity, there's always a long line and some items on the menu get sold out early. Munchiez is a lot closer to me and has the same pineapple pork buns and pineapple custard buns as Mei Lai Wah without the long lines! They also serve dimsum and meat skewers after 7pm. The prices however are about $1-2 more expensive than at Mei Lah Wah. Munchiez is a small spot, mainly for a grab and go food experience. There's one table with 2 chairs inside, although it wouldn't be my first choice to dine in since it can get pretty hot and stuffy inside. They're open late on weekends, which is great to satisfy those late night munchies!

I tend to reject the theory that reality is just one big computer simulation. However, on a cold night on MacDougal Street: walked into Munchiez because i wanted some of Mei Lai Wei's famed steamed pork buns. there were a couple of folks talking to the counterperson, so i stood in line and waited to be helped. behind me another staffer was sweeping or something so i tried to stay out of her way. though i had my headphones on, it seemed liked the sweeper was trying to make eye contact... her mouth started moving so she seemed to be talking to / at me, so i took off my headphones to sorta hear her saying to me: "...for customers only" i said: "excuse me , what?" she looked dumbfounded as i said nothing else. the customers behind me were talking and said something like: "where's the bathroom?" the sweeper then said to me: "the bathroom is for customers only" me being totally confused by this situation was like did she actually think i said something without my mouth moving as the voice clearly was coming from the customers behind me. i replied: "I didn't ask anything. The people behind me asked. Weird" She looked more confused and then the counterperson seeing this unfold, waved at her and told her the other customers were asking about the bathroom. She seemed confused but kept sweeping. I want to know what drugs she is on BECAUSE I never want to take any of those drugs if she is this disassociated from reality. Lol. I want to know why she was wearing those round-framed TikTok filter glasses when she can't see when people are talking or not talking to her. LOl I want to know whether we are actually in the Matrix, and whether she took both the red pill and blue pill and has no idea what is going on?!!! LOL. Anyway I ended getting one steamed pork bun. I left bc this location is fucking weird AF. The bun, itself, tasted great--warm, savory, sweet all in a fluffy light bun. This place is clean and well maintained, barely any seating, so it's mainly takeout. What more can I say about the staff other than--one is operating like they actually work in a business and other is working like they are in the Twilight Zone! Frankly I will likely just go to the Mei Lai Wah location in Chinatown next time bc there is no chance of the Matrix glitching there!
